Hot Blooded

HOT BLOODED
Serves 10 (in a 10 ounce rocks glass filled halfway with ice)

For the spicy syrup:
1 ½ cups water
1 cup agave nectar
2 large jalapeno peppers, in ¼ inch slices (about 16 slices total)

In a medium saucepan, combine ingredients and bring to a boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool - steep peppers longer for more concentrated flavor & heat. When the mix reaches optimal heat remove peppers and stain off seeds, transferring syrup to a large jar and refrigerating until needed.

For the cocktail:
1 cup spicy syrup
1 ½ cups lime juice 
1 ½ cups blood orange juice (about 14 raspberry or blood oranges)
1 cup plain orange juice 
1 cup New Holland Brewery Clockwork Orange
2 cups mezcal
2 cups tequila 
1 cup water
Coarse salt, turbinado sugar and muddled mint, optional for garnish

Combine all ingredients (except garnish) in a large pitcher. Shake each cocktail individually and pour over ice or simply pour from the pitcher. Rim each glass with a mixture of salt, sugar and muddled mint and serve over ice.
