Whiskey Sour with Campari Ice

I’m pretty sure the first drink I heard someone order at a bar was a whiskey sour. I’m also pretty sure that it didn’t taste like this drink—with its BITTER orange riding right up to the not-too-sweet sour mix made with just honey. It is a winner, and I vote that every bar throw out the whiskey sours and replace them with this. Campari ice is a WINNER!

Many thanks to Women & Whiskies for inspiration regarding this recipe.

Whiskey Sour with Campari Ice
Serves 4 in a 750 milliliters pitcher (I reused this container!)

1 ½ cups water
1 cup lemon juice
½ cup honey
4 drops lemon essential oil
1 ½ cups whiskey
⅓ cup Campari mixed with ⅔ cup water

Make Campari ice:

Combine Campari with water and mix well before pouring into an ice cube trays. I like these trays or this whiskey ice sphere mold.

Make the honey simple syrup:

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, lemon juice, and honey. Stir for a minute and bring to a rolling boil.

  2. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 5 minutes before adding 4 drops of lemon essential oil. Stir and allow to cool to room temperature or refrigerate overnight.

Make the cocktail:

Right before serving, mix whiskey with the honey simple syrup in a pitcher. Serve Campari ice in each glass and top with Whiskey Sour!
